How We Can Help
GYST Youth Rise supports youth and adults who are preparing for major life transitions, including youth aging out of foster care, justice-involved young people, and individuals preparing to return to their communities after incarceration.
Seven Areas of Support
Our goal is not simply to help someone get through a transition. We want to help them develop the skills, resources, relationships, and confidence needed to build lasting independence.
Housing
We help participants prepare for stable living by addressing housing readiness, household responsibilities, tenant expectations, and the practical skills needed to maintain a home.
Mental Health
We connect participants with appropriate mental health support while teaching healthy coping, emotional regulation, self-awareness, and ways to manage stress and difficult life experiences.
Education
We help participants explore high school completion, GED programs, technical training, certifications, college opportunities, and other educational pathways connected to their goals.
Employment
Participants receive support with career exploration, job readiness, résumés, interviewing, workplace expectations, professional communication, and building a realistic path toward financial stability.
Life Skills
We teach the everyday skills that independence requires, including budgeting, banking, credit, transportation, scheduling, communication, decision-making, personal responsibility, and navigating community systems.
Relationships
We help participants understand healthy relationships, boundaries, communication, conflict resolution, family connections, and the importance of building a dependable support system.
Community
We connect participants with mentors, organizations, services, and community resources so that they are not expected to navigate their next chapter alone.
Our Approach
Our work begins with a simple principle: We don’t wait until they arrive.
Before the Transition
Whenever possible, GYST begins preparing individuals before they leave foster care, juvenile placement, incarceration, or another structured setting. We help them build practical skills, connect with resources, and form a support network.
After the Transition
That preparation continues as they transition into the community and begin building independent lives. We walk alongside them through housing, employment, education, and the everyday challenges of starting over.
